Grever turned out hundreds of posters between 1894 and 1926 for the biggest names in early cinema, such as Mary Pickford and John Barrymore. All works on this page were completed for H.C. Miner Lithographic Company.

During the golden age of silent cinema, Otto Lambert Grever was a the forefront of visual advertising, creating stunning posters and billboards for New York’s most celebrated films and Broadway productions. His extraordinary talent elevated him to the pinnacle of his craft. Grever was entrusted with creating portrait posters of icons like Mary Pickford, Charlie Chaplin, and Douglas Fairbanks – Hollywood royalty of their time.

Much of his work was commissioned by production companies like United Artists. the legendary studio co-founded in 1919 by Chaplin, Pickford, Fairbanks, and D.W. Griffith. His portraits become synonymous with the glamour and allure of the silent film era.

Grever’s legacy is immortalized in major art collections. Five posters reside in the archives of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, four of Grever’s works are in the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, and fifty pieces are in the Museum of the City of New York.
